It matters not whether Israel weakens or destroys Hamas in this operation. If the conditions for peace are not brought about by the victors, this battle is just a time out.
After WWII, the Europeans came to the understanding that many of the terms for peace set out at Paris for peace at the end of WWI led directly to the rise of conditions for WWII. The intervening years were just a pause in the Great European Civil War.
If Israel doesn`t learn the lesson this time, Hamas, or likely a much worse successor, will rise like a phoenix from the ashes of Gaza. |
