Israel is a democracy with a vocal left wing component. The targeting of civilians by the IDF/IAF would be a very dumb way to win votes in the next election. "War crimes" can play almost as badly as a defeat during an election campaign.
"Waterboarding" by the US military at Guantanamo Bay and other detention camps severely damaged the image of the Bush Presidency. He is fortunate, on many levels, that he could not run again.
An Israeli Administration which committed "War Crime" would mock the existence of Israel, and Israeli voters would know it. |
