The Gazan militant/terrorist groups including Hamas violated the cease-fire countless times before Nov. 4th with rocket and mortar fire. The excuse given by them at the time was because of one or two of their terrorist members being killed in the West Bank where the truce did not even apply.

If you think that Israel is going to return to the status quo ante before Operation Cast Lead began on Dec. 27th, then you are in fantasyland. Hamas might survive, but it will be rendered impotent with respect to its offensive military capabilities one way or another. Furthermore, Israel is not going to withdraw from the Gaza Strip until her security concerns are satisfactorally addressed no matter what public opinion, the international community, the UN, the Arab League, or Hamas has to say about it.
