I basically agree with you that this is somewhat of a useless and undemocratic move. I personally don`t think I would ever ban these parties from running from the Knesset elections.
However, there is something missing in your comments. The leaders of these parties regularly break basic Israeli laws openly and in public. Take for instance, the many Arab Members of Knesset that regularly travel to Israel`s archenemies, with much publicity. This is against Israeli law, and any Jew would have immediately been prosecuted.
Incitement to hatred is not rare either, although some of the Jewish parties could justifiably be charged with that as well. Verbal support for terrorism is also not uncommon.
The question then is, does structurally breaking the law disqualify you from running in parliamentary elections?
I don`t have a direct answer to this question, and I think I would naturally tend towards "no": you should just be prosectuted. |
