| What did Hamas think would happen when it sent rockets into Israeli civilian populations? It was right that Israel would show extraordinary restraint. It was wrong in thinking it was endless. That was a monumental mistake. It was also a war cime and also conduct that placed Gazans at risk. Even worse, Hamas imbedded itself and weapons in civilian population in Gaza & in civilian buildings. Some Gaza civilians are quite innocent, though most voted for Hamas knowing that it was dedicated to destroying Israel and knowing that its Charter provides that all Jews are legitimate targets. Its hard to feel bad for people who voted for a terrorist organization to be their government knowing that the organization wants to destroy Israel and target Jews. One the other hand there are innocent civilians, many of them, including children. Its a terrible tragedy that those people are being killed and horribly maimed. Hamas is to blame. Israel may and has a duty to protect its civilians. |
