Good question. It looks like there are 3 distinct possibilities:
1. A cease fire is reached with Egypt`s mediation. IDF withdraws from Gaza, Hamas licks its wounds. A tense period of "calm" ensues.
2. Cease fire talks break down. IDF goes in full force into Gaza City. After massive destruction and casualties, Gaza is reoccupied by IDF. Hamas is defeated, leaders killed or escape via Egypt to foreign countries. Israel is faced with unsavory task of caring for 1.5M angry and hungry pals.
3. Cease fire breaks down. Israel imposes a seige of Gaza City, as with PLO in Beruit. War of attrition ensues for several months while cease fire talks continue. Most likely Hamas suffers same fate as PLO did in Beruit. |
