All,
The Hamas leaders are deluded. There have been big steps forward in urban warfare.
Israel needs to seal off the cities. (Already done).
Israel invites (orders) civilians out of a certain neighborhood. Most civilians leave.
Israel fights into the neighborhood. Widens a street (with bulldozers), builds a fence, orders civilians out of the next neighborhood.
That is what the US did in Sadr City - it worked.
Israel has managed to avoid booby traps - so far - and has a technique (not explained) to find tunnels connecting Hamas safe houses and blow them up. The Hamas strategy hasn`t worked in Zeitun and Sharjiyah. Clearly, the neighborhood by neighborhood approach has already begun.
The downside - Israel can be conned into attacking civilian places of refuge (as happened in Jabiliyah.) That results in `bad press`.
Israelis are sick of rockets and are proving that they are willing to take casualties to accomplish their ends. |
