1. with Armenia - they massacred up to 1.5 million unarmed Armenians (that is like killing the whole Gaza) and stole their homeland. I read that facing this reality, the Turks would commit suicide.
2. with the Kurds - whose language and culture were not allowed.
3. with Russia - who fought wars with it for centuries. Turkey became the sick man of Europe and eventually the Ottoman Empire fell, along with the Russian empire.
Both Russia and Turkey had some exposure to western ideology and could not incorporate it in their laws and institutions. It was this failure that lead to the barbarian and cruel genocides of its minorities by both countries. Russia and Turkey could become more democratic or they could slide back into authoritarian dictatorships. |
