Israel`s party list system means that, in the end, the person at the top of the ticket radically affects the success of the entire list, irrespective of the quality of those below the top of the ticket. So if Barak is deemed to succeed in this operation, he pulls everyone behind him. So thanks to the hard work of Ashkenazi and the IDF, the fools and has-beens of Labor get a new lease on life. What a system!
As to Barak himself, while he`s certainly doing far better than Peretz in 2006 (he could hardly do worse), the fact that he deemed it appropriate to take several hours from attending to the operation to talk with the French about a cease-fire suggests he`s still not ready to be PM (as he proved the last time around). |
