| In the 2006 war Israel stated a number of goals, none of which were met. Among these was the return of the captured IDF men, stopping the Hizbollah rockets, and disarming Hizbollah. In the current war with Hamas, Israel has much more modest goals. They want to stop the rockets and "deal Hamas a blow". These more modest goals are part of the lesson Israel learned from the 2006 war. While Israel has certainly dealt Hamas a blow, it remains to be seen if Israel will be successful in stopping the rockets. The best strategy for Hamas is to gain a cease fire and rearm for the big event which will take place when Israel attacks Iran. |
