Hamas believes that it has a right to attack civilians, men, women and children. While I think this is deplorable and believe that it is a tragedy that Pal civilians have been maimed and killed, a necessary tragedy, I might add, its clear that Hamas and that part of the Arab world that accepts Hamas`s principles, have no legitimate objection to Israel`s behaviour. Indeed, its very easy to go further. Even if one were to reject Hamas`s view on the legitimacy of attacking civilians, Israel who makes a serious effort to spare civilian life, is still on the moral high ground. And, certainly, there is no legitimate basis for Israel sacrificing the well being of its civilians for the well being of Gaza civilians (by exercising even more restraint than it has to this point).
On the first point, if Muslims throughout the world think its wrong to attack civilians, where were their voices when Hamas was attacking Israeli communities? Of course, we all know the answer! |
