Why not forego the war? Because the Israeli army is still smarting from 2006, as if there is something glorious about a war on a civilian population. Israel today looks like a pariah state. When it says, "what can we do about the rockets fired from Gaza?" it forgets the British did not send in the RAF to bomb hospitals, universities and police stations to deal with attacks from the IRA. It would have seemed like an uncivilized state if it did so.
Israel is caught up in some kind of psychosis, largely thanks to Washington D.C. which had protected Israel from recognizing that it has to take its colonies, military and go home to Israel or absorb Palestinians over which it`s ruled for forty years into Israel as citizens.
It is Israel that must decide whether it wants a two state solution or one binational entity, because the latter option is what dynamics on the ground are headed. Either that of a wholesale massacre of the Palestinians. Even Bush won`t allow it. |
