If Israeli Arabs,and I am one, see fit to demonstrate against the Israeli military operation in Gaza; it is only fair to ask where were they when Hamas was pounding southern Israel with rockets, and refusing to listen to Egyptian mediators. If indeed we are against use of force, we can not cherry pick, we must demonstrate against all use of force.
The question of the siege should and could have been settled diplomatically. There may still be a very slim chance to implement a cease fire, and start negotiating renewal of truce. It appears that Hamas had miscalculated and underestimated the daily mounting pressure on the Israeli Government to do something about Qassam fire. The irony is they, Hamas, will try to appear now as champions of the Palestinian cause, when in reality they are the ones who are giving the shaft to the Palestinian people. |
