Let`s try a little mental experiment about the morality of Israel`s actions.
Imagine that Israel possessed a defense weapon such as a giant net which it could put up across the border, which would fling rockets fired from Gaza back at Gaza, the only drawback being that Israel could not control where the returned rockets landed. And imagine that every day Hamas fired hundreds rockets into Israel (as it does now), and that these were flung back by the net, resulting in many civilian deaths in Gaza, since Gaza is crowded and not well supplied with bomb shelters.
Is there anyone who would dare argue that Israel had no right to put up such a net to defend itself? No? Well, since Israel has attacked only after thousands of rockets have fallen on its territory (after it withdrew completely from Gaza), what Israel is doing is the virtual equivalent of such a net, except that it is trying to target military targets not civilians.
