| Ahmad Saadat is the General Secretary of the PFLP, and an elected member of the PA Legislative Assembly. When the prosecution found NO EVIDENCE of his involvement in the assassination of Zeevi, they transferred him to the military court. In the military court they charged him with "membership" in the political organization that he leads, and whose public face he is. This is possible thanks to the Emergency (Defence) Regulations, that Israel adopted from the colonial British Mandate regime, and that have been in force since a "state of emergency" was declared on May 19, 1948, and that prevails in Israel to this day! So, Ahmad Saadat is NOT a convicted terrorist. He is a political prisoner, convicted under colonial legislation of a colonial regime. His release -- and the release of Marwan Barghouti and all political prisoners -- would be the way to obtain the release of Corporal Gilad Shalit. But, no, instead we have media lies and incitement promoting intransigent militarism. |
