One possible unintended consequence of the Gaza operation could be the fall of the current Egyptian government, being replaced by one that is willing to tell the US to go "f" itself (in Chenney`s immortal words) and will be much less friendly, if not downright hostile to Israel.

Israel could end up with a very hot enemy on its south to compliment the very hot enemies on its north.

The Gaza operation could even possibly cause the fall of the current Jordan government, resulting in Israel being surrounded by very hot enemies, more than willing to supply Palestinians with weapons and support.

Both countries also would serve as excellent launch positions for more advanced rockets, like the ones already in Lebanon and Syria.

It is VERY IMPORTANT to remember that once a war is started, the consequences are not predictable and are often much worse than imagined.

Israel may look back and think a few rockets a day was nothing to get upset about.
