In light of the latest developments in Gaza, and Israel`s boneheaded policy of escalation against Hamas, contrary to Assad`s advice to end the military and economic siege of Gaza,one would think that Mahmoud Abbas will not last long, for any future Israeli government to conduct peace negotiations with.
Hence, Olmert`s strategy is correct, complete and immediate withdrawal from all the Golan and a hands-off approach in Lebanon, will probably assuage Assad. That in itself, would be the greatest strategic achievement Israel could muster under the circumstances, because time is not on its side. |
