I find torture abhorrent no matter who partakes or conducts it against whom.
It seems very strange also that we are only just hearing about this in Israel, and the news media outside Israel has not reported that any of their Nationals were tortured. It seems strange also because India claims that the attack was conducted by a group attached to Kashmir which would have nothing to do with the Palestinian conflict.
However, we should keep in mind that we have been accused and have indeed admitted here in Israel to torturing Palestinian men, women and minors in our jails and also pictures of Israelis taking part in torture in Abu Ghraib have appeared in the Press a number of times. As America is quite clearly responsible for horrendous torture itself, I think that unless we spoke up when our closest ally was caught doing this, and we ourselves have admitted to the practice, then this is what happens to our own people when they are captured. This is why we should never, ever torture. |
