The Egyptian government is walking a tight rope, it wants to topple the Hamas government in Gaza, yet it wants to appear as an honest broker to pacify the Egyptian population who is flabergasted at its Israeli coordinated closure of the Gaza border. In their view, Hamas could be the spark that will ignite the largely discontect Muslim brotherhood within its own borders, a movement that rallied against the ruling regime for the past 50 years. Under the right circumstances, the Egyptian regime can fall as quickly as the Iranian regime under the Shah. Hamas and Hizbullah are the catalysts that may expedite such scenario. It is not unusual that the Egyptian government will pay lip service for their support while working diligently to undermine both organizations.
