Far too many analyses of the situation that center around who is going to lose face, who is going to look good, and who is trying to get what message across, and what Israel should do in order to protray itself as assertive.
All the writers of these analyses, including Issacharoff, seem to forget that there are people under rocket fire. If we go to war, it will be to stop the rocket fire on the civilian population of the Negev - NOT to save face, NOT to deliver abstract messages to Hamas, and NOT to project an assertive image.
Those who allow themselves the luxury of dwelling on these so-called objectives would do well to spend a day or two in one of the towns or communities within rocket range. They would then perhaps realize what the real problem is and stop theorizing. |
