| The purpose of Hamas` actions are to increase their legitimacy. Israel`s goal is to remove Hamas from power. It seems that a military strike will indeed finish Hamas off, but only if it is preceded by an embarassment, such as a prolonged lack of response, as we have seen today. If Israel finds a way to wait, proving Hamas has no negotiating power, and then strikes all Hamas strategic interests with fierce power, showing that Hamas has no military strength, Hamas may lose all support, as it will both be perceived as weak military and an obstacle to negotiated gains. |
