"Sanctions don`t work, especially with a country that has had to live under them for 3 decades. I`ve been saying that for a decade now." - Persian Kitty
They can work, it depends what is being sanctioned, why, and what the goals are.
In the case of Iran you correctly point out that it has been under sanctions for it`s entire history and having survived the Iran/Iraq war under military sales sanctions Iran is particularly resistant to that sort of pressure.
But then the US goal has not been to change Iranian behavior, it has been to change the government (shades of 1953).
Conservative once meant someone who was inclined to preserve the existing social and economic order.
Now it means someone incapable of learning from the past and past mistakes.
The blatant bellicosity of the USA and Israel have been a great boon to the Mullahs. The Iranian people may not like them, but they suffered a horrible war in the 1980s and have not forgotten it.
Iranians learn, conservatives can`t. |
