"But there also seems to be a connection with the Hamas position, which is dancing a strange tango with Israel and does not currently look like it is particularly interested in an extended confrontation. " - Amos Harel
Israel has clearly been little interested in a major confrontation.
"Hamas` conduct gives the impression that it is not interested in deterioration, but feels obligated to portray itself as being ready to go all out." - ibid
Which is exactly what the Israeli government has been signalling.
"Hamas is not taking an active role in escalating the violence; it is simply letting the other groups fire on Israel." - ibid
A fact not understood by Israeli war hawks and ignored by the politicians talking up the crisis for personal gain.
Conversation by violence is a louse method of discussing a cease fire.
But with Israel less than two months from elections, it seems the only communications possible.
No Israeli politician dare restore the cease fire. |
