In Israel, however, unlike Canada, I feel especially powerless because no MK represents my district and is therefore neither dependent on my vote nor obligated to advocate on my behalf. While proportional representation has its merits, so does representation by district or region. In the latter case, there are other means of being voted into office semi-independent of being the best wheeler-dealer because a candidate must appeal directly to the public. |
