It seems that Barak is using the same misleading history books now used at school if he claims he is emulating Rabin in not opting for preemption. Rabin was Chief of Staff in the Six Day War when a preemptive strike saved the nation from annihilation. Failing to make a preemptive strike in 1973 led to the difficulties in which we found ourselves in the early days of the Yom Kippur War.
The current policy of waiting for significant civilian casualties before counter-attacking is inhuman. The longer we wait, the better equipped and better trained Hamas becomes. They also have more time to recruit world opinion - one only has to listen to all the calls for legitimising dialogue with Hamas. A Defence Minister has one job and one job only. It is to deter the enemy from attacking us. His present policies seem to inviting the enemy to do so.
