The cease fire failed. The blockade was not eased. Israel resumed attacks in Gaza, and Islamic Jihad started a campaign of limited attacks.

The incoming Likud/Shas government will end any dream of a two-state solution and would have voided any ceasefire anyhow.

The guys who run Hamas might be thugs, but they are not stupid.

They have played the end of the cease fire for maximum effect with the group which is both their constituency and the primary objective of their efforts at this time.

The Palestinians. Hamas demanded the cease fire be extended to Israel.

It then even offered to extend the cease fire if Israel would ease the blockade.

They are no doubt delighted they do not have to deliver anything anymore.

All they have to do is let the jackboot descend and reap the crop of young and eager terrorists while maneuvering for victory in the West Bank.

It is a good thing that Hamas has few friends. Their biggest ally, Israel, helps them more than the world - or Israel - needs.
