The checkpoints and other restriction on movement are a direct result of the violence of the Intifada. Tear gas and even bullets are sometimes needed to restore order. The alternative is chaos.

It is up to Israel to define what is acceptable behavior in its jurisdiction, just like it is up to the Boston Police Department to define it in your neck of the woods. Have you just landed on Earth, Dutch?

Granted, there are a lot of Palestinian kids that have seen more than their share of violence. And that is tragic. There are also few Jewish families that have been not been touched directly or indirectly by the violence that Mr. Arafat promoted.
