Thanks for the quotes, Mark. The greatest and most famous of all such observations is contained in St Paul`s famous first letter to Timothy:
"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." (6:10)
The whole of this letter is however relevant. Earlier, Paul advised:
"(be) not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money." (3:3)
and:
"But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction." (6:9)
