I agree with Ya`alon.
""we have backed ourselves into a corner, where every deal we make encourages kidnappings. In addition, those murderers who we release, go on to murder more Israelis." - Mose Ya`alon
The government of Israel, not just this one, but others in the past, have given in to public pressure and the result has been further kidnappings.
While I understand the public concern, Israel is a small nation, it has a citizen as opposed to a mercenary army, and there is a long tradition of paying to redeem Jewish captives.
But I also understand that ransom leads to more captives.
In the last year we have seen the exchange of a horde of thugs for some bones.
That was particularly weird given that a live captive remained unredeemed.
Perhaps a hard and fast policy is needed to protect Israeli politicians of all parties from their cowardice.
Give them a law to hide behind.
Or expect to see - and redeem - more captives as a matter of policy. |
