We should recognise that whilst US and Israeli interests are usually similar, they are not identical. The two nations need to confer and hopefully co-ordinate their foreign policies; but to expect one to predominate over the other is neither realistic nor desireable.
President-elect Obama, through a carrot-and-stick approach, is attempting to goad, through diplomacy, the Iranians away from their nuclear programme.
Whilst I am not optimistic about the eventual success of this approach, it must be essayed before any American blood is spilt. Israel may not approve of this apprach, but there is nothing (and there should be nothing) in the US-Israeli relationship that prevents Israel from keeping its powder dry.
