| The idea behind the Partition Resolution (November 29, 1947) was that 2 "peoples" had emerged in Mandate Palestine, and that therefore the territory should be partitioned into 2 ethnically-defined mini-states. There was a map, with borders. Jerusalem was supposed to become an international city. Israel pre-empted the implementation of Partition, took over more than its allotted share of the country, and forced out 750,000 Arab refugees. The rest is history. If you want to go back to Partition, you must go back to the Partition borders, internationalize Jerusalem, and let the refugees return and repossess their property. Otherwise, the "2 states for 2 peoples" plan merely legitimizes dispossession and oppression. Dispossession and oppression cannot lead to peace. |
