| The CVN 71, USS Theodore Roosevelt is sailing. We might need Bahrain for a long-term presence in the Gulf, but everyone in the Gulf knows we are following the Brits out of the region in the next few decades. Meanwhile, we have our own floating air bases which we can sail to within striking range of most of the world`s population. Gates is not shooting blanks, he is defining the arena. It is a clear that a strike against Iran will be the response to an attack on us. But then Iran is not stupid enough to strike the first blow in a war it does not want. |
