Our vital interest in the ME is oil. Period. Greenspan (Age of Turbulance) hinted, not so subtley, that Saddam Hussein was a hindrance to a reliable oil flow. Hence he is now dead with his sons and associates. The U.S. and Israel are is the war business. Weaponry is sold to any who will buy. Iran would do well to develop a relationship with our President. If not, Russia is an open option. China has already invested in Iranian oilfields. Russia is also courting Venezuela in our hemisphere. The Monroe Doctrine? Turnabout is fair play I guess. I have hope that our imperial designs are fading. Unbridled consumerism, unbridled capitalism, and all the crap that allow extreme riches to a few, and the poor getting poorer by the minute. Trillions of dollars in bailouts for the shysters on the backs of the taxpayers. What problems President Obama faces.
