Gates could have chosen a better place than Bahrain to have made that appeal. Although King Hamad is Sunni, Bahrain is one of the few Muslim countries with a Shiite majority (along with Iran and Iraq, and Lebanon has a Shiite plurality). Oh well, when VP Nixon went to Brazil in 1959, he thought that they spoke Spanish there whereas they speak Portugese in Brazil. When are U.S. Officials going to do their homework before sticking their feet in their mouths? |
