| Carter is a decent man. That may have been his great weakness as a President. Hizbollah refused to meet with him because it sys the US an enemy of Hisbollah. A pretty safe presumption. There seems to be a certain glee because Hizbollah snubbed Carter. Not because of what it might say about the situation Hizbollah is in, but because for some reason the rabid right hates Carter. Hizbollah has seen DRASTIC changes in the political situation in Lebanon. Changes unlike ANY which have happened since Hisbollah was created in response to the Israeli occupation of Lebanon. Those changes are a great threat to Hizbollah. It has two sponsors, Iran and Syria. Syria has made peace with Lebanon and Iran has become a supplier of arms and aid to Lebanon. Which leaves Hisbollah in the position of the odd man out. What could they say to Carter? We don`t matter so much as last year? We are worried what you might tell Assad next week? The arms which expected are going to the Lebanese army? |
