"Jimmy Carter: Obama to tackle Mideast peace early on"
- Headline

"Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter said on Friday HE HOPED U.S. President-elect Barack Obama WOULD quickly engage in Middle East peace talks. . ."
- First line in story

There is a drastic difference.

The headline gives the impression Carter knows what Obama`s priorities are.

The story shows that what he actually conveyed was what he hoped Obama`s priorities would be.

The fact is that there is only so much the United States CAN do to promote peace between Israel and Palestine.

In the end given the total weakness of the Palestinians, there is only one party that can decide upon peace between Israel and Palestine.

That party is Israel.

As Israel is about to elect a government categorically opposed to peace, there is NOTHING that the US can do.

As we have plenty of problems we can deal with, I hope Obama doesn`t spend much time or effort pissing to the windward in the Middle East.
