| Perhaps above all other human endeavors, the arts could and should be a source of healing from the divisiveness that seems to afflict the Jewish people even more irrationally than it does the world at large. Today`s polarization between so-called religious and secular segments of our society is a tragedy born of ignorance and prejudice. What a pity that the Festival is about to miss such a golden opportunity to reverse that trend. I share Ms. Garbose`s hope that well-meaning patrons of creative expression will find a way to make this event a true Jerusalem festival, worthy of Jerusalem, city of shalom - harmony and wholeness and peace. |
