The problem is the Israeli half of her citizenship. It seems that there are prohibitions by the countries involved against Israelis traveling to Afghanistan and Iraq, not to mention extra dangers.
But the soldier is responsible for her own predicament. She elected to maintain dual citizenship when she re-upped for her current enlistment term. She has been well aware for a long time that the volunteer US military is short-handed these days and that the needs of the Army usually take precedence over the desires of its soldiers.
The danger to Prince Harry of Britain in Afghanistan was no different in that the soldier in question would be a prize target for the enemy. But Harry wanted to go.
Perhaps the best thing for all is for the Army to discharge her now, with pension credit and other beneifts reflecting only service to date. |
