Yossi Verter: Despite Netanyahu's fears, latest poll shows Likud gaining strength
Talkback
Title:The one good thing about a Likud gov`t . . .
Name:Joseph
City: State: USA
with the list Likud elected a couple days ago is that cooperation with the US administration will be poor enough that the Pres. Obama and advisors will be more likely to just go ahead and put an American solution on the table regardless of the Israeli gov`t`s position (something like a public version of the Taba agreement or Geneva Accords). This is something that probably has to happen for progress to occur, and will make diplomatic progress more likely when Netanyahu`s government is replaced by one that has some sense of reality in world politics again.

The only thing that could help Netanyahu avoid this is if the lunatics in Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran keep themselves in American newspapers and make him and Likud look like peaceniks by comparison. Otherwise, even most Americans (including most in the American Jewish community) will support the US administration if and when it takes a position at odds with Likud. (Just as they did when Clinton was President).
