| If MTHEL and Phalanx anti-rocket systems can shoot down rockets and mortar rounds with flight times of less than 13 sec., then why can`t Iron Dome be automated to the same degree even if it is worthless against mortar rounds (they`re too small)? Israel has known since the 2nd Lebanon War that the only military option essentially left to the Palestinian and Lebanese militant/terrorist groups is rocket fire over the fence and yet has refused to procure viable anti-rocket systems which already exist in favor of developing an anti-rocket missle system that won`t be ready until 2011. Israel should spend the money on acquiring anti-rocket systems that work now and not on fortifying homes which is not very cost-effective when the civilians only have a few seconds warning to get to the bunker. The other option is to reconquer the Gaza Strip, oust Hamas, and restore PA control there. |
