| Get over the cost--that argument has long since been lost. These are families who are going to use party planners and spend that kind of money. Better they should use the money in a way that allows the family to explore their connection to Judaism and the earth, and that shares those connections with their guests. NY b`nai mitzvah usually run $15,000+ (actually, often $50,000+)--and you can find LOTS of Jews in Toronto who spend $5,000-10,000+ for b`nai mitzvah as well. Do I think it`s the right way to spend money? No--and I don`t have the money, either. But you`re not going to guilt these families into spending less any more than you`re going to guilt them into being more observant--you`re just going to drive them away with your complaining tone. |
