The Gulf states, led by Saudi, are trying to establish a framework for regional peace.

They are doing so in a diplomatic effort which started during the Second Lebanon War.

Obama and Iran have both staked out their opening positions in negotiations.

What remains to be seen is whether Obama reverses the US position of not cooperating with the Saudis.

That he will reduce the policy of threats that the US has pursued for 8 years is a given.

The effort to prevent Iran from building what is called a `break out capability` needs to be pursued and the effort to shut down all nuclear power work in Iran forsaken.

The goal of the Gulf states is to prevent nuclear weapons and not, as the US has been pursuing, start a war.
