"If you want to drive more than that, you pull into a (yet to exist) battary change station just as you would a gas station. At the change station, they exchange your depleted battary for a fully charged one. Better Place would own all the battaries."
Sounds easy.
Now the logistics: What you need for a gas station is an underground tank for liquid material and a pump to transfer it to the vehicle. VERY simple.
Battery exchange station: Large store for charged batteries. Conveyors to move them into the exchange port. Exchange machinery: take out old battery, insert new one. Conveyors to move discharged batteries to recharging stations. Conveyors to move recharged batteries to battery storage.
Now calculate the required cubic space for, say, 5000 batteries ... the enery needed just for circulating these heavyweights around in this assumed battery storage ... then multiply with 100.000 or 1.000.000 ... |
