And Israel continues to pursue policies which strengthen Hamas.

The failure of massive operations in Gaza during the summer of 2006 was not just military. Those operations were great Hamas recruiters.

Refusing to deal honestly with Abbas has been a godsend to Hamas.

Expanding settlements is helping Hamas in the West Bank by showing that Abbas is just wasting time trying to deal with Israel.

Hamas will never be an existential threat to Israel, but it will continue to be an ever bigger problem until someone realizes that the failure comes from continuing to do what has failed instead of taking a more pragmatic approach.

Keeping Gaza`s hospitals from receiving supplies does not hurt Hamas.

It just convinces folks in Gaza that Hamas is right.

Strangling the economy in Gaza does not hurt Hamas.

A major operation will cost more Israeli lives and money than the rockets do, and just convince more Palestinians that Hamas is right.

Hamas thrives on what Israel does.
