| I went to Akiba-Schechter Jewish Day School, which, to correct one of the posters, is not a "Solomon Schechter school". It`s not true that his daughters went to the school or any Hebrew school, for that matter. Rather they went to the Jewish Community Center (JCC) Summer Camp at the Hyde Park JCC, which at the time was located in a synagogue building from which Akiba rented space during the school-year. Speaking from experience (having been a summer camp counselor at that JCC a few years back) the content of the program is not terribly Jewish with the possible exception of the names of the groups and a Friday afternoon sing-along of Jewish songs and a kiddush-and-hamotzi mock-Shabbat. A vast majority of both the campers and staff are non-Jewish. |
