Iran has consistently stated that it does not want nuclear weapons, only to use nuclear power for peaceful purposes. Iran has the right, like any sovereign state, to establish nuclear power stations.
IF Iran DID want nuclear weapons, the state would be entitled to obtain them, especially for defensive purposes. Look at the map, states close to them such as India, Pakistan and Russia have them. Israel, which MAY have nuclear weapons, has made threats to attack Iran.
As North Korea has proved, nuclear weapons are a good deterrent, so it is understandable that Iran would find them attractive. |
