| Ms. Durson outlines very clearly Israel`s desired result from negotiations with Syria, but then makes her usual self-satisfying, but false, leap to conclude that Israel would never give up the Golan anyway. She writes this despite Rabin`s offer of withdrawal down to the Int`l border (Assad rejected that because he wanted water rights to the Galilee). No, Natallie, the reason we don`t have a deal on the Golan is because the Syrians want their cake and their terrorists, too. You are right about Israel`s demands and they are reasonable if lasting peace is the goal of both parties. As ever, Israel is expected give up tangible land in exchange for easily breakable promises from the Arabs. Shouldn`t the burden of proof be on the Arabs? It is Israel that takes the greater risk here. Land cannot be taken back without war. |
