| Israel wants a number of things from Syria. Chief among these things is a halt to Syrian support of Hizbollah and Hamas, a halt to Syrian influence in Lebanese politics, and peace with Israel, to include not joining or supporting Iran in the case of hostilities between Iran and Israel. Syria wants only one thing from Israel and that is the return of the Golan. Israels mission over the years has been to find the magic words which would cause the Syrians to give Israel all they want in exchange for nothing. Israel will not return the Golan so they have nothing to give Syria, yet, some still think that they Syrians can be outsmarted somehow. So far, the Israelis have only outsmarted themselves. The clock is ticking on the Iran confrontation and Syria remains the wild card. |
