| No matter how good Melchior is as an MK, his possible demise from the Knesset is directly linked the fact that years ago the Meimad party changed from a "real" party to one that only existed as a vehicle for his re-election. No effort was ever made by Meimad to widen its support, for example, by running candidates in local elections. By riding on the coat-tails of the Labor party, Melchior antagonised many of Meimad`s original supporters and made his departure from the Knesset pretty much inevitable once the Labor party decided that Melchior was unnecessary. |
