One may inquire which territory the author is so anxious for Israel to give up - is it the west bank, which makes up almost a fifth of the total land of Israel, or is it the Gaza strip, out of which rockets keep terrorizing Sderot? Or perhaps he means Jerusalem, the historic bone of contention. Unfortunately, to give up Jerusalem is to deny the true right of Return, for as much as he may wish to silence the religious "fundamentalists", Israel was chosen as a Jewish homeland because of the Bible and what was promised there. If he still wants to move to Uganda, he should feel free, but these "territories" are why we are in the Middle East in the first place, and I would challenge him to find another country in history that freely gave away as a large a percentage of their land to a weaker population. Israel`s true addiction is to world approval, and Obama is hardly likely to grab that bottle. |
